Who are we?
Policy Division is the central policy agency for the Queensland Government. We are located within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and comprise nine work units.
Our Division is structured to provide policy advice and coordination services based on the Ministerial portfolios of the Queensland Government, through the following units:
Environment and Resources Policy
And to provide strategic and systemic advice, intergovernmental support and a range of research services through:
Cabinet Services
Implementation Unit
Intergovernmental Relations
Policy Development Office
In addition to these work units we also advance the Queensland Government's agenda of exporting education and training services through Queensland Education and Training International (QETI).
What do we do?
We play a vital role in ensuring that the Queensland Government is able to progress its strategic policies and priorities and to respond effectively to major issues affecting Queensland.
Dealing with major issues can often mean dealing with difficult problems. Creating solutions for these difficult problems requires government agencies to work together as a whole and this requires leadership, collaboration and coordination.
Governments require high-quality policy options and rigorous independent policy advice. That is, advice based on robust analysis from a range of perspectives and free from vested interests and partisan viewpoints.
Policy Division performs these key functions for the Queensland Government.
How do we do it?
An open and collaborative approach is an important feature of our work.
We build relationships and networks across government and non-government agencies and we strive to ensure open and effective communication channels.
We collaborate with all Queenslandgovernment agencies and assist them in the development of policy at agency, cross-agency and whole-of-government levels. We coordinate the development of whole-of-government policy by bringing together key players on important issues that require action from several agencies and, at times, act as mediators in resolving issues at the cross-agency level to achieve targeted, coordinated and responsive policies for Queensland.
Also, uniquely to the Queensland Government, our advice to the Premier on Cabinet submissions is provided to every Minister, so that Ministers and agencies have a stronger understanding of all the issues that shape government decision making.
