The Australian Honours System recognises the outstanding achievements of extraordinary Australians in a diverse range of fields including service to the community; exceptional acts of bravery; and notable service in particular fields including the armed forces, emergency services and for public service. The Order of Australia is the pre-eminent means of recognition.
The Australian Honours System is administered by the Australian Honours Secretariat, office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General.
