Queensland Premier's Literary awards


Conditions of entry

2008 Literary Awards Banner

The closing date for all entries is 5pm Friday 23 May 2008.

The decision by Queensland Premier's Literary Awards judges of an entrant's eligibility is final and no correspondence shall be entered into.

Eligibility

  • Authors must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
  • Authors cannot be nominated posthumously.
  • Works must be first published (including self-published) in the English language and offered for general sale between 26 May 2007 and 23 May 2008 (both dates inclusive), except for the:
  • Emerging Queensland Author - Manuscript Award;
  • Unpublished Indigenous Writer - The David Unaipon Award;
  • Australian Short Story Collection - Arts Queensland Steele Rudd Award
  • Poetry Collection - Arts Queensland Judith Wright Calanthe Award.
  • The Poetry Collection - Arts Queensland Judith Wright Calanthe Award and the Australian Short Story Collection - Arts Queensland Steele Rudd Award works must first be published in the English language and offered for general sale between 1 January 2007 to 23 May 2008 inclusive.
  • A work shall be eligible even if nominated for, shortlisted in or awarded other awards or prizes.
  • Please refer to the category specific guidelines for conditions of entry.

Authorship

  • Works of joint authorship are eligible.  Joint authorship is defined as joint responsibility by two authors for the entire text.  If the winning entry is a work of joint authorship, each author will receive 50 percent of the prize money.
  • The work must be the author's work.
  • Works may not be entered in the name of a committee.

Entries

  • Works may be entered by authors, their literary agents, publishers or producers.
  • Entrants must attach a completed and signed copy of the entry form.
  • Entry forms and copies of the relevant works must be received by the Awards Coordinator by 5pm on Friday 23 May 2008. This also applies if entering more than one category.
  • Copies of submitted works and manuscripts received shall become the property of the Queensland Premier's Literary Awards and shall not be returned to the relevant authors or publishers.  No correspondence will be entered into.
  • The Literary Awards Coordinator will distribute copies of entries to the State Library of Queensland and other public libraries following the awards ceremony.
    All entrants will receive advice of receipt of their entry/entries on completing the tear-off section on the bottom of the entry form.
  • Advice of receipt will be posted within approximately four (4) weeks of the closing date.
  • There is no entry fee for the 2008 Queensland Premier's Literary Awards.
  • All reasonable care will be taken, however no responsibility is accepted for loss or damage or for entries that are not received by the due date.

Judging

  • Judges shall declare relevant conflicts of interest immediately.
  • The awards will go to entrants whom judges deem to possess the highest literary merit.
  • Judges will advise of the shortlist on or after 14 August 2008 and the winning entries on or after 16 September 2008.
  • The decision of the judges is final and conclusive and no discussion or correspondence shall be entered into regarding the judging process.
  • Judges reserve the right not to award in a category.

Other

  • Breach of conditions of entry will render an entry invalid whether prospectively or retrospectively.
  • Publishers may print '2008 Queensland Premier's Literary Awards Shortlist' or 'Winner of the 2008 Queensland Premier's Literary Awards' on subsequent printings of shortlisted / winning works respectively.
