Ms Bonny Barry MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts, announced the 61 talented writers shortlisted for the 2008 Queensland Premier's Literary Awards at a ceremony held at the State Library of Queensland on Thursday 14 August.
Shortlisted authors include Nobel Prize winner J.M Coetzee, David Malouf, Underbelly scriptwriter Felicity Packard, Matthew Condon, Tim Winton and emerging authors Krissy Kneen and Simon Groth. click here for the full shortlist
Ms Barry also launched the debut novel of Queensland writer Ian Commins, who won the 2007 Emerging Queensland Author Manuscript Award. His novel, Fiveways, is set in Brisbane and tells the story of five people who share the same bus route week after week. The lives of five strangers unfold on these journeys in a compelling and emotional tale.
Winners will be announced by the Honourable Anna Bligh MP, Premier of Queensland on Tuesday 16 September.
