Countering terrorism

Security Planning and Coordination provides strategic advice and whole-of-government coordination of Queensland's activities in relation to counter terrorism.  Security Planning and Coordination:

  • manages counter-terrorism arrangements across the Queensland Government and with the Australian Government, other state and territory governments, local government, industry and the community;
  • works closely with the Counter-Terrorism Strategic Policy Branch (Queensland Police Service) and other government agencies to improve Queensland's security preparedness and capacity to respond to a threat or act of terrorism;
  • coordinates the Queensland Government's involvement in the national counter-terrorism agenda; and
  • works to fulfil the Queensland Government's vision to provide strategic guidance and direction to the development and implementation of counter-terrorism initiatives and activities across Government.

The unit was established in February 2003 in recognition of the threat of terrorism in the global community and to further enhance security coordination across government and industry.

Preparing for pandemic influenza

Security Planning and Coordination is working collaboratively with Queensland Health and a range of other agencies to help prepare Queensland for an influenza pandemic.

Managing the State Crisis Centre

The State Crisis Centre plays a key role in how the Queensland Government manages significant incidents.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has operational responsibility for preventing and responding to terrorism in Queensland, and QPS will investigate terrorist activity, threats and incidents.
