Indigenous Government Coordination

In August 2006, the Government Coordinator, Indigenous Service Delivery, commenced duty. The Premier's mandate to the office was to negotiate improvements across agencies in the delivery of services to 19 remote Indigenous communities.

The Government Coordination Office led the trialling of a number of intervention and coordination models using existing staff as well as some new community-based positions.

In December 2007, Pauline Peel, Government Coordinator, Indigenous Service Delivery and her team moved to the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. This move better positioned the team to address urgent concerns about service delivery to remote Indigenous communities in the state.

Pauline took on the new role of Deputy Director-General, Indigenous Government Coordination. She will lead a number of strategies to significantly enhance the coordination of government activity and investment, and to drive the government's priorities for these remote Indigenous communities.

A key role of the office will be to oversee the implementation of the Cape York Welfare Reform.
